GULF SHORES, Ala. - (Complete results) The Indiana Tech men’s and women’s programs won the team titles at the 2014 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium on Saturday. Both teams defended their 2013 outdoor national titles. The Warriors become the 11th different school to sweep the team championships.

There were three men’s and women’s national championships records set during the event.

Indiana Tech head coach Doug Edgar was named the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year after his teams won both titles. His men tallied 105 points to stave off Wayland Baptist (Texas) by 12 points. On the women’s side, the Warriors needed a win in the 4x400 meter relay to defeat Oklahoma Baptist, 102-101.

Oklahoma Baptist’s Akela Jones and Wayland Baptist’s Wayne Northover were given trophies as the Most Valuable Performers.

Jura Levy put her name in the record books with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.28, while also nearly breaking the meet record in the 200m, winning the event in 23.16. She also was on two, second-place relay teams.

With five individual titles, the Oklahoma Baptist women become the second different program to garner five twice, joining former NAIA member, Simon Fraser (B.C.), who has done it three times in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

The women’s title came down to a winner-take-all 4x400-meter relay, the last event of the championships and the Warriors were able to come out on top, winning by six seconds in a time of 3:39.88. The title is the second-straight for the Warriors.

On the men’s side, the race of the day came with a photo finish as Dontaey Paige of Indiana Tech won the event by .004 seconds over Howard of Wayland Baptist with a time of 10.48. The lone repeat national champion for the men came in the 4x400-meter relay as Wayland Baptist defended their relay title in 3:10.10

John Ampomah of Wiley (Texas) registered its first-ever individual title, winning the javelin with a toss of 74.42m.

The event was hosted at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex for the first time. The official list of the 2014 Outdoor All-Americans will be announced on Monday, May 26.
