MARION, Ind. - (live results) Concordia (Ore.) women and Shorter (Ga.) men leave Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana as the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field national champions on Saturday night.

Concordia pulled away from the field with 86 points to win its first championship banner in program history. Concordia becomes the 12th women's team to top the standings at the NAIA Championship in its 31-year history. Oklahoma Baptist finished as national runner-up with 69.5 points and Shorter took third place at 63 points.

Shorter edged Doane (Neb.) 66-59 to win the 60th Annual Men's Championship. The title is the first for Shorter as they become the 24th program to win the national championship. Oklahoma Baptist was third with 48 points and last year's champion Wayland Baptist (Texas) earned fourth with 42 points.

Obsie Birru of Grand View (Iowa) opened Saturday with a record run in the Women's Marathon. She set a NAIA Championship record with a time of 2:46:40.01, shattering the old mark of 2:49:14.00, set by Amber Anderson of Midland Lutheran (Neb.) in 1992. The win was Birru's second this weekend as she also finished first in the Women's 10,000-Meter Run on Thursday. Daniel Tubei of Park (Mo.) won the Men's Marathon in 2:27:12.40. Tubei won the marathon by 1:17.

Silas Kisorio of Oklahoma Christian was a two-time winner Saturday. Kisorio won the Men's 1,500-Meter Run in 3:46.26 and earned the victory in the Men's 800-Meter Run at 1:49.56. In the Women's 800-Meter Run, Simon Fraser's (B.C.) Helen Crofts crushed the field in a NAIA Championship record 2:02.12. Brit McRoberts, Crofts' coach, held the old record of 2:03.89 set in 1986. Simon Fraser also took first in the Women's 1,500-Meter Run as Jessica Smith won in a time of 4:24.58.

Brijesh Lawrence of Doane earned a pair of sprint titles on Saturday. Lawrence won an individual championship in the Men's 200-Meter Dash in 20.59 seconds and anchored the Doane 4x100-Meter Relay that won in a time of 39.92 seconds. Joining Lawrence on the relay was Ben McCaleb, Thomas Hodges and Chris Busby. In the women's sprints, Gayon Evans won the Women's 200-Meter Dash in 23.45 seconds while Indiana Tech raced to victory in the Women's 4x100-Meter Relay in 45.27 seconds. On the Indiana Tech relay were Abigail Torrian, Adella King, Chloe Brooks and Katleyn Lewis.

Verone Chambers of Oklahoma Baptist claimed the Women's 400-Meter Dash title in 53.43 seconds while teammate Nikita Tracey crossed the line first in the Women's 400-Meter Hurdles in 58.11 seconds. Dredame Carter of Florida Memorial was first in the Men's 400-Meter Dash as he finished in 46.52 seconds and Shorter's Nick Dodson earned the crown in the Men's 400-Meter Hurdles in 50.84 seconds.

Besides the marathon in the morning, four other distance races were run on Saturday. Simon Fraser's Ryan Brockerville beat the field in the Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in 8:51.78 while Katie Conlon of Jamestown (N.D.) won the Women's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:27.90. Lauren Jimison of Azusa Pacific (Calif.) earned first in the Women's 5,000-Meter Run with a time of 16:49.97 and Paul Chelimo of Shorter took the Men's 5,000-Meter Run in 14:05.88.

Five field events crowned national champions on Saturday. Natasha Miller captured her third straight championship in the Women's High Jump with a height of 1.80-meters (5-10.75), the same height she won her championships in 2009 and 2010. Nick Robinson of Concordia (Calif.) defended his title in the Men's Shot Put with a throw of 18.09-meters (59-4.25). Kayla Xavier of Concordia (Ore.) was victorious in the Women's Discus with a throw of 49.95-meters (163-10). Robbie Haynie of Eastern Oregon claimed the Men's Pole Vault title with a height of 5.35-meters (17-6.5) and Fresno Pacific's (Calif.) Ethan Dejongh topped the field in the Men's Triple Jump at 15.56-meters (51-0.75).

The 4x400-Meter Relay finals concluded the 2011 national championship meet, but were delayed over three hours due to lightning. When the skies cleared, Oklahoma City (Okla.) won the men's finals in 3:08.38 while Oklahoma Baptist crossed the line first in the women's finals in 3:36.89.

Following the conclusion of the meet, Dejongh of Fresno Pacific was named Men's Outstanding Performer of the Championship Meet while Crofts was recognized as the Women's Outstanding Performer of the Championship Meet. The awards are performance-based from the weekend.

Lawrence of Doane earned the Men's Most Valuable Performer nod and Natasha Miller of Biola (Calif.) was announced as the Women's Most Valuable Performer. These honors are points based from the national championship.

The final awards were the Coach of the Year honors. Shorter's Scott Byrd was named Men's Coach of the Year while Concordia's (Ore.) Randy Dalzell was the Women's Coach of the Year.
