Inclement Weather Halts NAIA Men's Golf National Championship First Round

SILVIS, Ill. -- Inclement weather won the day today at the 73rd annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship at TPC Deere Run.

Heavy rains and lightning forced multiple delays totaling over five hours during today's first round and ultimately forced the suspension of play until Wednesday.

The first round is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

None of the 78 players who began their round this morning could complete the opening 18 holes. Another 78 players never reached the first tee today and wait to begin their championship tomorrow.

Due to the limited play today, the tournament is reduced to a 54-hole championship.

Following tomorrow's completion of the first round and Thursday's second round, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and ties, and the top six individuals not on one of those teams. The final round is slated for 8 a.m. CT on Friday, May 23.

Dalton State (Ga.), Keiser (Fla.), and Texas Wesleyan are currently tied for first place at 2-under par. Keiser and Texas Wesleyan are both on their second nine of the first round, while Dalton State was on its first nine holes when play was halted.

Wednesday's first round resumes at 8 a.m. CT with those teams and individuals who were on the course when play was stopped. The afternoon tee times are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
