Day One Recap of 2024 Nfinity NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The 2024 Nfinity NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship hosted by the Ann Arbor Sports Commission, saw Day One scores count for 25% of the combined total, leaving the last 75% of the score to be calculated from Saturday’s Finals performances. The 8th annual event featured Preliminary Round action on Friday evening inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center on the campus of Eastern Michigan. 

Prelims Performance Highlights

  • St. Ambrose (Iowa) tops the field after the preliminary round with a 92.07 as the Bees seek their fourth championship and second straight Red Banner. 
  • Midland (Neb.), Grand View (Iowa), and Baker (Kan.) sit in second through fourth. 
  • SAU was the only team in the 90's, while eight were in the 80's and a trio in the 70's. 
  • Graceland (Iowa) and St. Francis competed in the event for the first time. 
  • Ten of the 12 teams competing in the championship this season also were in the 2023 event. 
  • Aquinas (Mich.), Baker (Kan.), Grand View (Iowa), Midland (Neb.), Oklahoma City, and St. Ambrose (Iowa) have qualified for the championship each season the NAIA has hosted the competition.
  • Graceland (Iowa), St. Ambrose (Iowa), and St. Francis (Ill.) did not receive any deductions.
  • The teams will be back on the mat Saturday starting at 2:30 apm. EST and will perform in reverse order of their scores today. Squads with lowest prelim score will perform first while the top score out of the first round will be the final performance.
