2022 NAIA Competitive Dance National Championship Recap - Day One

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The George Gervin GameAbove Center, the host of the 6th Annual NAIA Competitive Dance National Championships, saw 12 teams perform their preliminary routines Friday evening. Teams posting the highest scores on Day One will have the advantage of slotting in deeper into the competition on Saturday.

Prelims Performance Highlights

  • Three teams are making their first appearance – Cumberlands (Ky.), Thomas More (Ky.), and Viterbo (Wisc.) with the V-Hawks posting the best performance of the trio
  • Seven of the 12 teams competed on the national stage in 2021, meaning they have qualified all six times the National Championships have been hosted
  • St. Ambrose, who performed second, held the top score until the final team of the night when Morningside bested their score by .16
  • Baker (Kan.) and Grand View (Iowa) are tied for sixth place with 80.83
  • Five teams posted scores in the 80’s, the most in the four score groupings
  • St. Ambrose and Midland hold all championship victories and sit in second and third, respectively.

The teams will be back on the hardwood starting at 1:00 p.m. CST. Entering the Finals, teams will have already recorded 25% of their combined total from Friday’s performance, while the rest of the score will be comprised of points from Saturday.
