St. Ambrose (Iowa) Leads Field After Preliminary Round of 2025 Nfinity NAIA Cheer National Championship

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The ninth Annual Nfinity NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship, hosted by the Ann Arbor Sports Commission, featured 15 teams recording their preliminary scores during Day One of the event. The George Gervin GameAbove Center, in Ypsilanti, Mich., was the site for preliminary round scores, counting as 25 percent of the combined total, leaving the last 75 percent of the score to be calculated from Saturday’s Finals performances. 

Prelims Performance Highlights

  • The performance order for Friday was determined by random draw, with at-large qualifiers competing first, followed by automatic qualifiers.
  • St. Ambrose (Iowa), who are defending their Red Banner, posted a round high of 97.97.
  • Dickinson State (N.D.), Oklahoma City, and Xavier (La.) all posted scores in the 90’s during impressive preliminary performances. 
  • Concordia (Mich.), Indiana Wesleyan, Missouri Valley, Oklahoma City, and St. Ambrose (Iowa) have qualified for the championship each season the NAIA has hosted the competition.
  • All 15 teams in the 2025 event have qualified previously, including 13 repeat qualifiers from the 2024 championship. 
  • Five teams in the field have previously raised a Red Banner led by St. Ambrose and Oklahoma City, with two each.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Georgetown (Ky.), Grand View (Iowa), Missouri Valley, Northwestern (Iowa), and St. Ambrose (Iowa) did not receive any deductions
  • The teams will be back on the mat Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. EST and will perform in reverse order of their scores today. Squads with the lowest prelim score will perform first, while the top score from the first round will be the final performance.
