PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – [SCHEDULE | BRACKET] The inaugural NAIA Women’s Beach Volleyball Invitational opened up play on Thursday with pool play to decide the placement of the teams in bracket play.

Pool A

Vanguard (Calif.) def. Corban (Ore.), 4-1

Corban (Ore.) def. Webber (Fla.), 3-2

Vanguard (Calif.) def. Webber (Fla.), 4-1

• Vanguard went undefeated in pool play
• The fives pair was the only pair that lost for Vanguard on the day.
• The fours pair for Corban (Ore.) and Webber (Fla.) pushed the Vanguard fours pair to three sets.
• Corban pushed Vanguard to three sets at the twos pair as well.
• Corban won the first three matches to finish vs Webber as Webber was able to capture the final two matches. One of those matches, Webber pushed the Corban fives pair to three sets.

Pool B

Westcliff (Calif.) def. Park (Mo.), 5-0

Park (Mo.) def. Ottawa (Ariz.), 3-2

Westcliff (Calif.) def. Ottawa (Ariz.), 4-0*

• Westcliff went undefeated in pool play
• Westcliff opened play in the tournament with the only sweep so far over Park (Mo.)
• Park did push to three sets in the game at the three and five positions.
• Park rebounded in its second game-winning a nail-biter over Ottawa (Ariz.) as the teams were tied up at the conclusion of the 1, 2, 4 and 5 positions. It was up to the final result of the threes position that would decide the match. The threes position was the only match that went three sets in the game.
• In the final game for pool B, Westcliff and Ottawa played to a decision. The 2-5 pairs all fell in favor of Westcliff as the ones pair did not finish its third set due to playing to a decision.

Looking Ahead

• All teams advance out of bracket play
• Pool play decided where teams would be placed on the bracket.
• Webber and Park will play each other in the first game of the day at 10 a.m.
• Corban and Ottawa will follow with a start time of 12 p.m.
• Westcliff and Vanguard get a bye past the first round straight to the semifinals as a result of winning their pools respectively.
• The winners of the first-round matches will move on to face either Westcliff or Vanguard for a chance to advance to the championship match on Saturday.
