The FARA 15
- How did you become an FAR?The Assistant Provost of Academic Affairs called me and said, “I have an opportunity for you.”
- What is your favorite part of being an FAR? I like trying to calm the waters between athletics and academics
- What is the biggest challenge of your job? Calming the waters between athletics and academics. That and being asked to serve as the compliance officer in addition to FAR.
- If you could go back to your first day as an FAR, what would you tell yourself? “Do you like ulcers? Because this is going to give you ulcers.”
- What is your favorite show/movie? What About Bob? With Bill Murray
- What has been the highlight of your time as an FAR? Getting to know the coaches.
- What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? My dad quoted, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” That is been good advice I’ve tried to follow.
- What can you not live without? Air…and water.
- Who are your favorite teams (other than your school’s of course)? All Fighting Illini teams, Clemson, Chicago Cubs, Bears, & Bulls.
- Who was your most memorable or inspiring student that you have worked with and why? Andrew “Sonny” Jordan, I called him “the Mayor” because he had a huge smile and when he walked across campus he greeted and knew everyone.
- How does your school approach certifying students in the ECP software? It is all done between the Registrar (mine is the best in the entire world) and I.
- What do you like to do in your free time? Golf, going to the movies, going to dinner.
- If you have a question related to your position as FAR, who do you contact? Brenda and Lendsey, who else?
- Do you have any pets? No
- How do you navigate being a part of two different departments on campus? I guess I don’t see myself that way. I see myself as being a member of Marian, and I just try to contribute to my two departments to support our overarching institutional goals.
