The FARA 15

  1. How did you become an FAR?  
    Our AD and FAR both retired in 2009, I had just started and Dordt and was open for a committee assignment.  They knew I enjoyed Dordt Athletics so they asked.
  2. What is your favorite part of being an FAR?  
    Engaging with student athletes beyond the Business majors are typically see.
  3. What is the biggest challenge of your job? 
    The frenzy in August / September as the fall seasons kick off.
  4. If you could go back to your first day as an FAR, what would you tell yourself? 
    I have a LOT to learn, but the resources and support are there.
  5. What is your favorite show/movie? 
    Tommy Boy
  6. What has been the highlight of your time as an FAR? 
    Minimal eligibility related violations
  7. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? 
    Dig in to the details and keep learning
  8. What can you not live without?   The Bible
  9. Who are your favorite teams (other than your school’s of course)? 
    KC Royals, LA Rams
  10. Who was your most memorable or inspiring student that you have worked with and why? 
    Kyle Lindbergh.  Was great visiting with him about life after graduation – career, grad school, overseas pro basketball
  11. How does your school approach certifying students in the ECP software? 
    Once we have rosters and all the ECP profiles updated, I pull the AD, Registrar and Coach together to review the certificate, we discuss any issues currently or looming in the future, and then I initiate the online submission.  I wait until last so that I can be sure it is submitted on time before first contest.
  12. What do you like to do in your free time? 
    We’re a busy family, we enjoy Dordt events and church activities.  I play drums in church praise teams.
  13. If you have a question related to your position as FAR, who do you contact? 
    I start with our conference eligibility chair, and the home office after that.
  14. Do you have any pets?   
    A schnoodle named Bella
  15. How do you navigate being a part of two different departments on campus?  
    Communication
