 Finished a dual victory over St. Mary with a 1st period pin over the No. 11 wrestler at 191lbs.

Week 8 (February 15, 2023)

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Sophia Smith, Oklahoma City

   

Oklahoma City University's Sophia Smith captured the Midland Warrior Open 130-pound title Sunday at Hopkins Arena. Smith rolled to a 5-0 performance, taking her first career tournament crown with a 2-0 victory over Emily Paulino from host Midland (Neb.) in the title bout. Smith, ranked 11th among NAIA 130-pounders, knocked off the 15th-ranked wrestler at her weight, Paulino, and No. 18 Alexandra Baudhuin from Jamestown (N.D.) on Sunday. Smith pinned Baudhuin in 4:42 in the semifinals. Smith recorded her fastest fall of the season in 27 seconds against Madeleline Sargent of Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in her first match of the day.

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Caitlyn Thorne, Central Methodist (Mo.)

   

Posted a 4-0 record in the Gold 116 pound bracket of the Grand View Open. Earned four wins over nationally ranked opponents including the No. 8, No. 20, No. 3, and No. 2 wrestlers in the country. Two of her victories came via Tech Fall.

Week 6 (February 1, 2023)

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Cristelle Rodriguez, Doane (Neb.)

   

Rodriguez went 5-0 on the week, winning the Saint Mary Spire Classic 130-lbs division. Ranked No. 3 at 123, she wrestled up a weight class this past week. She started the week with a win over No. 8 (123) Larissa Kaz of Hastings by tech fall, 12-1. At the Spire Classic, Rodriguez started with a pin over Athena Wilden of NCAA Division II William Jewell in 26 seconds. Her second win came over Madelynn Griffin of Ottawa, ranked No. 5 in the KCAC ratings at 130. In the semifinals, she defeated Bronwyn Brenneman of Iowa Central CC, ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA rankings. In the championship, she defeated 2022 NAIA All-American Nichole Moore, who won the 23U 57-kilogram division of the US Marine Corps women's national championship in May 2022.

Week 5 (January 25, 2023)

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: MaQuoia Bernabe, Cumberlands (Ky.)

   

MaQuoia Bernabe won the 191-weight class at the Robert Horton Open going 3-0. She defeated Vianna Rouleau in the championships who is the defending Junior Pan-Am Gold medalist (76 kg). Bernabe won that match by criteria since she scored a four-point takedown to start the match. This is Bernabe's first regular season individual title.

Week 4 (January 18, 2023)

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Erin Redford, Eastern Oregon

   

Redford dominated all weekend at the York Dual Tournament and York Open. The senior racked up four pins in a 6-0 weekend that saw here win the York Open highlighted by a pin over No. 12 ranked Maryellen Lafferty of Texas Wesleyan.

Week 3 (January 11, 2023)

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Caitlyn Davis, Central Methodist (Mo.)

   

Davis posted a 5-0 record at the NWCA National Duals. She picked up dual victories over the No. 18, No. 16, and No. 7 wrestlers in the country at 155-pounds, and a win over No. 6 at 143-pounds. Three of her five victories came via a 10-0 Tech Fall.

Week 2 (January 4, 2023)

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Latifah McBryde, Life (Ga.)

   

McBryde went undefeated at the Soldier Salute to win the 155 lbs. bracket, taking all seven of her matches in the bonus. The Freshman recorded a tournament high in pins, while also requiring the least amount of time to secure them.

Yes! Athletics Women's Wrestler of the Week: Caitlyn Davis, Central Methodist (Mo.)

   

Won third place match over No. 3 Randi Robison (Campbellsville University) (Dec 3-2) Finished third in the 155 pound weight class of the Missouri Valley Open. Posted a final record of 6-1 including a win over No. 2 Kaylynn Albrecht and No. 3 Randi Robison.
