Southeastern Shines in Game One Walkoff

COLUMBUS, Ga. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE] Southeastern (Fla.) needed all seven innings to come away with the lone win of the day in game one of the 2022 NAIA Softball World Series. After Webber International (Fla.) plated three late runs to tie the game at four, Haleigh Harrell homered for the Fire to send the team from Lakeland, Fla., to the second round of the winner’s bracket.

 

GAME NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS

No. 7 Southeastern (Fla.) def. No. 10 Webber International (Fla.), 5-4

  • Webber International led the scoring in the top of the third when Alycia Celia crossed the plate on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Southeastern tied it in the bottom of the fourth. Jamie Mead scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Erica Stahl.
  • The Fire put together a three-run lead in the bottom of the sixth. Stahl recorded her second RBI of the game to give her team a 2-1 lead. Ashley Ellison followed with an RBI double before Madison Williams singled to cap the scoring.
  • Stahl’s two RBI were her 53rd and 54th of the season. She ranks second on the team in that category.
  • The Warriors came back and tied it in the top of the seventh. Claire Seekinger recorded two quick outs, but allowed a pair of singles followed by a pair of walks and two hit batters to tie the game at four each.
  • Haleigh Harrell put the game on her back in the bottom of the seventh. The junior tagged a 1-0 pitch and deposited it over the wall in left-center field to win it for the Fire.
  • Harrell leads the team with seven big fly’s on the season. Her last home run was on April 19 in a win over Florida National.
  • With the win, Southeastern will advance to play No. 2-seeded Oklahoma City on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET.
  • Webber International will now play in an elimination game on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. against the loser of No. 3 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan.
