2021 NAIA Softball World Series Day Five Recap

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Back-to-back shut outs lead Raiders to the national championship game. Southern Oregon defeated Bethany (Kan.) 9-0 in game one and College of Idaho 8-0 in game two.  The Raiders will face conference opponent, Oregon Tech at 5:00 PM EST tomorrow. This will be the first time two conference teams have met in the title game since 2012.

  • Southern Oregon continued their battle back for the banner climbing one step closer by defeating Bethany (Kan.) 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Bethany (Kan.) had a great performance on the big stage going 2-2 in their 2021 NAIA Softball World Series appearance, placing fourth.
  • Southern Oregon woke up the bats in the top of the second when Allie Stines tripled to deep center bringing in two to get an early lead that they would maintain the rest of the game.
  • They would continue the offensive run the next few innings scoring one run in the third and two in the fourth, highlighted by Lauren Quirke’s solo homerun in the top of the third.
  • Lauren Quirke, the 2019 NAIA Softball World Series MVP, dominated for the Raiders on Tuesday afternoon. Going the distance on the mound with eight strikeouts and also at the plate going 4-4 including a homerun and four RBIs.
  • The Raiders turned around looking for their chance at redemption on College of Idaho in the third place game. Following the elimination of the Bethany all three teams remaining represent the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

  • The Raiders kept their bats warm in their second game of the day outhitting the Yotes 13-5
  • This was seventh time the two teams have met this season. The first four wins went to Southern Oregon while the last two College of Idaho claimed. One of which was game 11 in the World Series to send Southern Oregon to the elimination bracket.
  • Looking for redemption, the Raiders went on a scoring run beginning in the third inning.
  • Southern Oregon strung together a few hits and maximized on two College of Idaho errors to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
  • Riley Donovan helped extend the lead by one in the fourth inning hitting a homerun over the left field fence.
  • The scoring did not stop there.. The Raiders went on to score four more runs in the sixth inning to end the game early.
  • The sixth inning was highlighted by a double from Allie Stines, bringing in two of her teammates.
  • College of Idaho finished their season with a record of 44-19 and place third at the 2021 NAIA Softball World Series.
  • Southern Oregon will return to the championship game for a second year in a row. They will race Oregon Tech.
  • The two Cascade Collegiate Conference teams have played each other five times this season, Southern Oregon currently winning the series 3-2.
  • The Owls have won the most recent meeting on May 8th with a final score of 5-0.
