 Opening Round Day Two Highlights 

  • 20 teams ended their season at the national championship opening round on day two of play.
  • 19 teams moved on day to day three of opening rounds to play for a chance at the 2021 NAIA Softball World Series.
  • Due the weather and change of schedule the Oklahoma City bracket finished play in day two and the No. 3 seed Ottawa (Kan.) is set to advance to Columbus, Ga.
  • Ottawa defeated Midland (Neb.) 11-1 to advance to the NAIA Softball World Series in their fourth trip to the World Series.
  • Lyndsey Loomis, Jillian Kygar, and Cierra Faubion had two hits apiece and Kygar led the Braves with three RBI.
  • Casson Rasmussen picked up win no. 29, pitching the complete game victory. She struck out two and only allowed four hits.
  • There were quite a few upsets today including seven No. 1 seeds getting eliminated. Including Oklahoma City, Science & Arts (Okla.), Columbia (Mo.), Indiana Wesleyan, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Georgia Gwinnett, and William Carey (Miss.)
  • Three number No. 4 seeds will make in the championship game within their respective bracket including: Bethany (Kan.) Mount Mercy (Iowa), Houston Victoria (Texas).
  • Defending National Championships, Southern Oregon defeated Hope International 5-0 to advance to the opening round championship game.
  • Gabby Sandoval pitches a 4-hitter for her second shutout in opening round series and Tayler Walker hit a tiebreaking three-run double with two outs in the third inning.
  • Should Southern Oregon win tomorrow it will be their fourth straight World Series appearance.
  • However, Hope International bounced back to defeat Morningside (Iowa) 3-2 to get a second chance at the Raiders tomorrow.
  • In one of the biggest upsets of the day, No. 25 Midland (Neb.) defeated No. 2 Oklahoma City in the Oklahoma City bracket, 7-3.
  • Katlin Anders of Midland (Neb.) keyed the game with a third-inning grand slam. Ending the Stars of OCU season at 44-6.
  • The No. 3 team, the Drovers of Science & Arts (Okla.) also had their season brought to an end, with a 3-2 extra-inning loss against No. 22 Grand View University.
  • The Fayette bracket faced weather challenges and ultimately had to move fields where their games were pushed to 5, 7, 9 and 11 PM CST making for an extremely late night for the four teams in the field.
  • Records by seed through day two
    • No. 1 seed: 11-14
    • No. 2 seed: 15-13
    • No. 3 seed: 16-8
    • No. 4 seed: 6-12
  • The champions from each of the 10 opening round tournaments advance to the 40th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Ga., from May 27 – June 2. These programs will participate in a double-elimination national championship at South Commons Softball Complex.
