• Oklahoma City is playing in its 13th all-time national championship game (2010 - L; 2007 - W; 2002 - W; 2001 - W; 2000 - W; 1999 - L; 1997 - W; 1996 - W; 1995 - W; 1994 - W; 1993 - L; 1986 - L). That stat is the most all-time in NAIA history. The Stars are looking to win their record ninth all-time national championship and already hold the most wins (110) and the most championship appearances (26).
• Shorter is appearing in its first-ever National Championship title game. The Lady Hawks are playing in their sixth-straight tournament and stand 17-11 tournament record, including a 6-0 mark this year. Shorter has never made it to the round of four prior to this year.
• If Oklahoma City wins, there will be an If Necessary game to follow. If that occurs, it will mark the second-straight year that has happened and the third time since 2005 when pool play format began (2008, 2011).
• If Oklahoma City wins, it will be the ninth time the state of Oklahoma has won the title with the Stars winning all of those. If Shorter wins, it will be the second Georgia softball national championship with Thomas University claiming the trophy in 2004.
• With the win yesterday, Oklahoma City senior pitcher Lily LaVelle tied the NAIA National Championship tournament record with her seventh win (7-1) and eighth complete game pitched. She has pitched all 57 innings for the Stars during this tournament - -the all-time tournament record is 64.0 innings set back in 1987.
• Other national championship records on the radar for LaVelle: 7.0 innings shy of tying national tournament record of 64 set in 1987; five strikeouts away from tying national tournament record of 85 set in 2009; one shutout away from tying national tournament record set last year; two appearances shy of tying national tournament record of 10 set in 2008.
• The last four national championship title games have been one-run games. The four previous years (2008-2011), the winner was victorious by an average of four runs.
• Eight title games have been won via shutout, with the last coming in 2011 when Oregon Tech held off California Baptist, 1-0.
• The National Championship game has been forced into extra innings on four occasions, with the last coming 2002, when Oklahoma City defeated Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), 2-1 in eight frames.
