Pool B Recap: Day Three (Saturday)

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Cal State San Marcos and host school Mobile (Ala.) picked up victories on the final day of pool play B Saturday at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship. Cal State San Marcos will face Shorter (Ga.) Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. CDT to kick off double-elimination bracket play.

Cal State San Marcos knocked off Southern Nazarene (Okla.), 7-3, thanks to two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. Cortney Allen grabbed the complete-game victory, limiting the Crimson Storm to three runs on two hits, while striking out four. At the plate, Alex Miller went 1-for-2 with three RBI and Kaitlin McGinley finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Cougars. Southern Nazarene got a two-run home run from Amy Madden and two runs and one RBI from Kristina Forest.

After Miller's two-run single in the fifth put the Cougars ahead 2-1, they put up five on four hits in the sixth. The eventual game-winner came on McGinley's RBI-hit to right-center.

The Lady Rams scored in four of the final five innings to take down Texas Wesleyan and salvage a win after dropping their first two games of the tournament. Emily Vickrey led the way at the dish with three hits and four RBI, while Milagros Lozada finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Ally Scott had two hits and two runs. Lindsay Cline went 2-for-4 for Texas Wesleyan.

Kamaron Strickland got the win with 4 innings of three-hit, one-run ball, while Alli Hall worked 3 innings of one-run relief to grab the save. A three-run fourth inning gave Mobile the win. It was started by a two-run double from Vickrey and capped by a RBI-double from Brittany Dunson.
