Pool H Recap: Day Two (Friday)

GULF SHORES, Ala. - (AUM vs. APU Box Score) (ONU vs. WPU Box Score) Pool H saw both Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) win by a score of 2-0 on Saturday at the NAIA Softball National Championship. Auburn Montgomery blanked Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and the Tigers held William Penn (Iowa) scoreless. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex for the second-straight year.

Warhawk pitcher Brandi Richards continued her hot streak in the national championship. After three innings yesterday of no-hit ball, she went the distance for her 14th win of the year. She fanned eight Cougar batters and allowed just three hits.

Taryn Devich was just as impressive in the circle for Azusa Pacific until she ran into trouble in the sixth. Devich allowed the first two hitters to reach base before giving way to Rita Kim. Kim was immediately wild uncorking two pitches in the dirt which allowed Joanna Reynolds and Jyssica Peper to score the winning runs.

Pepper tied for the game high with two hits for the Warhawks. Heather Koch also rapped two hits for Azusa Pacific.

Olivet Nazarene squeezed out a win behind super pitching from Katie Hannagan and Lindsay Stotler and timely hitting. The Tigers made the most out of their four hits. Jordan Reynolds led off the bottom of the first with a hit-by-pitch, stole second, and scored on a double by Hannah Gardner.

An insurance run was scored in the sixth when Molly Anderson was driven home on a Megan Butler single. Anderson reached on a fielder's choice and was pushed over on a sacrifice bunt.

Hannagan went 6 2/3 innings for the victory. She allowed six hits and struck out four. Stotler recorded the game's final out.

Ashley Stream and Mikayla Djordjevic posted a pair of hits for William Penn.

In Pool H action on Saturday, Auburn Montgomery challenges William Penn at 9 a.m., CDT and Azusa Pacific faces Olivet Nazarene at 2 p.m.
