Belhaven (Miss.) Advances By Besting Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 3-1

GULF SHORES, Ala.(Box Score) Belhaven (Miss.) ousted Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 3-1 to go 3-0 in pool play action at the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship.

 

Belhaven (47-10) will advance to the eight-team double-elimination bracket Monday, May 23 and face the winner of Pool C at 10 a.m. CDT.

 

Sarah Burns (38-7) continued her outstanding work from the circle to pick up the win. She struck out eight in seven innings of six-hit, one-run ball and walked none. Anyibell Ramirez (29-8) took the loss for Lindsey Wilson (47-8) after giving up two earned runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.

 

The Blazers managed only four hits in the game, but they were able to put up single tallies in the first, third and seventh innings to pick up the victory.

 

In the first, the Blazers turned a one-out walk to Rian O’Bannon into a 1-0 lead after she stole second and scored on Annalee Carr’s RBI-single.

 

Christina Jaques and O’Bannon went back-to-back with a double and RBI-single, respectively, in the third inning for the eventual winning tally. Ally Goniea kept Lindsey Wilson from being blanked when she launched a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth. It was her second homer of the tournament.

 

O’Bannon finished 1-for-1 with a pair of walks for Belhaven, while Rachel Wright finished 1-for-3 with one RBI. Goniea finished 2-for-3 to pace Lindsey Wilson at the dish.

 

Lindsey Wilson finishes its season with a 47-8 record.
