May 20, 2011

Box Score

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Jackie Imhof tossed a perfect game and Oregon Tech (37-12) blanked Midland (Neb.) (19-33) 3-0 in pool play action at the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship Friday.

Imhof (21-5) delivered the first perfecto of the national championship and the fourth no-hitter overall in 2011 by fanning 11 batters in the complete-game effort. Imhof allowed only one ball out of the infield in the game. She struck out multiple batters in three innings and recorded at least one strikeout in every inning.

Erica Miller (2-5) took the loss for Midland after giving up two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings of work in the circle.

The Owls’ bats provided Imhof with just-enough run support as Shauna Collins finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and Taylor Schmidt went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

There were zeroes in the board through three innings of play, before Oregon Tech broke through with a pair of tallies in the fourth inning. Brittany Cherry started the inning with a double and scored the game-winner on Schmidt’s RBI-single. Collins capped the inning with a two-out RBI-base hit.

Oregon Tech finishes pool play against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) at 5:30 p.m. CDT Saturday, while Midland will face Northwood (Texas) at 12:30 p.m. Both OIT and Trevecca are 2-0 in Pool B and the winner tomorrow will advance to the double-elimination bracket on Monday.
