Central Baptist (Ark.) Uses Big Inning to Defeat Notre Dame (Ohio) on Day One

GULF SHORES, Ala. – (Box Score) Central Baptist (Ark.) (52-4) plated six runs in the third inning and fought off a comeback attempt by Notre Dame (Ohio) (22-20) to record a 9-4 victory in the pool play action on day one of the NAIA Softball National Championship that is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

 

Kayla Lucas and Carly McLennan each tallied two of the Mustangs' nine hits. Lucas scored three runs and McLennan recorded one RBI and one run scored.

 

Kayleigh Harriman stroked a two-run double and later scored in the Mustang six-run third inning that put Central Baptist up 8-0.

 

Notre Dame wasn't about to go down without a fight. The Falcons used three hits and two Mustang errors to push across four runs to cut the margin in half in the fourth inning. Christine Kasidonis and Nicole Spehar each tallied two-run singles in the inning. Spehar finished with two of the team's five hits.

 

Jessica Bock (22-1) threw 6.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball to pick up the win. Bock walked two and struck out six.

 

Kim Lennox (8-4) was charged with the loss after giving up five hits, one walk and six runs (four earned) in 2.1 innings of work.

 

On Friday, Central Baptist will battle Davenport (Mich.) at 1 p.m. CDT and Notre Dame will take on Shorter (Ga.) at 6 p.m. in pool-play action.
