California Baptist Blasts SUNY Canton (N.Y.) 11-0 in Five Innings on Day One

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Clifornia Baptist (60-3) scored nine runs in the third inning to post an 11-0 run-rule shortened game against State University of New York at Canton (18-14) in pool play action on day one of the NAIA Softball Championship. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
Kendall Gorham and Sloan McHann combined for four of the Lancers' 11 hits to lead the offense. Gorham doubled and singled in two runs in the CBU third inning.
SUNY Canton's Lyndsay Coppola and Danielle Callahan posted the team's lone hits.
Tory Ferreira (18-2) earned the win after replacing starting pitcher Emma Holder in the third inning. Holden gave up one hit and struck out six, while Ferreira fanned two in two innings of no-hit ball.
Tina DeLuca (13-11) was tabbed with nine earned runs on 11 hits and four walks in five innings for the Kangaroos.
On Friday, California Baptist will take on Friends (Kan.) at 10:30 a.m. CDT and SUNY Canton faces MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 3:30 p.m.
