2009 NAIA Softball Players of the Week Announced - #6

KANSAS CITY, Mo.Jamie Gillespie of Ashford (Iowa) has been selected as the NAIA Softball Player of the Week while Sara Jane Webster of Dickinson State (N.D.) was awarded the NAIA Softball Pitcher of the Week while for April 13-19.

 

Gillespie, a senior outfielder from Davenport, Iowa, batted .455 with 1.182 slugging percentage last week.  In six games she went 10-22 with five homeruns, a double, 18 RBI and eight runs scored.  Against Viterbo (Wis.), Gillespie hit two grand slams in one inning and had 10 RBI to lead Ashford to its first win of the season.  She followed that with two more homeruns in the next game.

 

Sara Jane Webster - Dickinson StateWebster, a sophomore pitcher from Los Angeles, Calif., had three wins in three appearances last week. Against Minot State (N.D.), she threw her fourth no-hitter of the year while breaking Dickinson State’s single game record with 17 strikeouts.  On the week, Webster pitched 17 innings while allowing zero earned runs, one hit and struck out 34 batters.

 

The next Players of the Week will be announced on April 28.
