University of Mobile Named NFCA/NAIA National Coaching Staff of the Year

The University of Mobile coaching staff has been selected as the NFCA/NAIA National Coaching Staff of the Year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on June 27th.

Head coach Terri McCormick and assistant coach Maribel Riera led the Rams to a 42-10 record and advanced to the final day of the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championship Game. First-year head coach McCormick led the Rams to the Region XIII Championship and a No. 4 ranking in the final NAIA Top 25 Poll.

The University of Mobile was also named the East Region Coaching Staff of the Year. The full list of Regional winners are as follows:

East Region
University of Mobile (42-10) Head Coach Terri McCormick, Assistant Coach Maribel Riera

Great Lakes Region
Bethel College (51-6) Head Coach Anna Welsh, Assistant Coaches Gessica Hufnagle, Samantha Creakbaum, Stephanie Hochstetler and Jeff Welsh • Welsh and her coaching staff guided Bethel to one of the best seasons in school history as the Pilots finished the year 51-6 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament where they went 2-2 in pool play.

Midwest Region
Central Methodist University (34-14) Head Coach Pat Reardon, Assistant Coaches Gene Reardon, Ross Dowell, Janeil Draffen and Danielle Dunn • Pat Reardon and his Lady Eagles went 34-14 on the season and captured the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular and postseason titles before finishing second in the NAIA Region V Tournament.

Southwest Region
Dickinson State University (39-10) Head Coach Guy Fridley, Assistant Coach Jamie Jung • Fridley and his coaching staff guided Dickinson State to a 39-10 record and finished the season as the No. 6 team in the country, the highest in school history. The Blue Hawks went 3-1 in pool play at the NAIA National Tournament.

Southwest Region
University of Houston-Victoria Head Coach: Keri Lambeth, Assistant Coach Ryan Lambeth • In the program’s inaugural season, Keri Lambeth’s squad went 32-18 and finished fourth in the NAIA Region VI Softball Tournament. The Jaguars had four players named to Region VI All-Region Teams.

West Region
California Baptist University (60-8) Head Coach Mike Smith, Assistant Coach Bill Baber • Mike Smith and his Lancers enjoyed a record 2008 campaign. The team’s 60 wins set a new school mark and Chantel Millard set a school hit record with 90 as Cal Baptist finished fourth in the NAIA National Tournament.
