Oklahoma Baptist University catcher Jayme Boyer Honored as Diamond Sports NAIA Catcher of the Year

Oklahoma Baptist University's catcher and a Shawnee native, Boyer is one of 10 catchers at all levels to be selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Diamond Sports as a 2007 Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year.

Diamond Sports, the NFCA's "Official Protective Equipment,"released Tuesday the 10 catchers who have been named the winners of the2007 Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year award.

Boyer, who was Co-Player of the Year honor in the Sooner Athletic Conference and NAIA Region VI, became OBU's first NAIA first-team All-America since Kena Freeman earned the honor in 2003. She also is an NFCA All-American

Boyer was a three-time SAC and Region VI Player of the Week and had one NAIA Player of the Week honor for the year.

She established school records in home runs with 17. She batted .408 and led the SAC in home runs, slugging percentage (.908) and on-base percentage (.543).

Diamond Sports and the NFCA present the award annually to the top catcher from NFCA member schools in each of the following divisions:NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC, Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) and high school.

Divisional committees consisting of NFCA member coaches determined the2007 Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year award winners. The recipients of this year's awards, by division, also included Killian Roessner of Louisiana State in NCAA Division I, Amber Lanier of Columbus State in NCAA Division II, Hannah Shalett of Ithaca in NCAA Division III, Amanda Duran of Pima County in NJCAA I, Renee Welty of Chandler-Gilbert in NJCAA II, Lyndsi Gocken of Joliet in NJCAA III; Keri Franks of Diablo Valley in Cal Junior Colleges, Kristin Wilson of Walla Walla in Northwestern Junior Colleges, and Starla Guffey of St. Amant High School in Louisiana.
