Defending Champion University of Mobile eliminated from 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship with 4-3 loss to Dickinson State University

                                                                                             

DECATUR, Ala. - Dana Dunsmore's three-run homer highlighted a four-run third inning for Dickinson State University as they eliminated defending champion University of Mobile from the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday (May 19) afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.

 

The 16th-ranked Blue Hawks improved to 31-6 overall and to 2-1 in Pool A while the No. 12 Rams ended their season at 36-17 and 1-3. Dickinson State has one remaining game to play today as they will face the University of Virginia's College at Wise in a 7 p.m. contest.

 

The Blue Hawks took a 1-0 lead when Kelly Jahn scored on a throwing error by Kelyn Mendoza in the third off Mobile starter Nikki Madden (15-9). Dunsmore pushed the advantage to 4-0 on when she connected on Madden's 0-1 pitch and deposited it over the left-field fence for a three-run homer.

 

The Rams battled back with a run in the fourth on an RBI double by Cristina Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3. Mobile got to 4-3 with one out in the top of the seventh on back-to-back home runs by Kelyn Mendoza and Jennifer Gomez. Meghan Shaw (22-1) got out of further trouble as she got Taylor Lee Phillips and Kristen Jolly out to end the game and preserve the victory.
