Trevecca Nazarene University advances at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship with 9-1 victory over Thomas (Ga.) University

                                                                                             

DECATUR, Ala. - Brittiany Johnson tossed a one-hitter as Trevecca Nazarene University defeated Thomas (Ga.) University 9-1 in five innings in Pool C action at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship Saturday (May 19) afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.

 

The No. 5 Trojans advanced to 58-9 overall and to 3-1 in pool play while the No. 13 Night Hawks ended their season at 25-20 and 1-3. With the win, TNU earned the No. 2 seed from Pool C and will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament that begins Monday (May 21).

 

Trevecca Nazarene scored twice in the second. Marla Trapani had a sacrifice fly before the Trojans added another run on one of four Thomas miscues. The Night Hawks got their lone hit against Johnson (41-5) in the second as Brittaney Berthold connected on a solo homer to left.

 

The Trojans broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning before closing with four more in the fifth as they took advantage of three Night Hawk errors.  Kylie Berryman (8-6) took the loss for the Night Hawks.
