BURNABY, B.C. - After helping to lead her 2006 Clan squad back to the NAIA National Championships, Simon Fraser University Clan (B.C.) shortstop Terra Davenport (Maple Ridge, B.C.) is on her way to Italy via London, England for a tryout this week with the British National Team in Sardinia, Italy.
Davenport, who hit .320 the past two seasons, received an invitation to the Sardinian camp. The camp will be used by the British team to select their squad for the 2006 World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City on July 13-17, and the Softball World Championships in Beijing, China, on August 27 to September 5.
"We are extremely excited for this opportunity for Terra," said SFU head coach Mike Renney of the announcement. "She has outstanding ability, which could be a real asset for the British National team."
Davenport is a Maple Ridge native, and was born in Canada. By virtue of her mother's birth in England, Davenport was able to apply for and receive British citizenship. While in Sardinia, Davenport will have the opportunity to meet up with Auburn Sigurdson, who is currently living in Sardinia and playing in the Italian women's softball professional league. Sigurdson was a 2004 Olympian with the Canadian National Team.
In 2006, the Clan finished in fourth place at the NAIA National Championship and ended the season with a 33-6 overall record.
