COSTA MESA, Calif. - Junior RHP Natalie Brown picked up two wins as then #9-ranked Concordia University (Calif.) set a season record for wins in a 2-0 and 3-2 sweep of Vanguard University (Calif.), April 25 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles (39-12, 15-9) eclipsed the previous record of 38 wins posted during the 2002 campaign. Concordia got to that mark thanks to a recent five-game winning streak that includes winning one of two against top-ranked California Baptist University and sweeping #5-ranked Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.).

Brown (19-8) tossed a total of 10.2 innings on the day, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven. She posted a three-hit shutout in the opening game, then took over in the second inning of game two with the Eagles trailing, 2-0.

Concordia scored twice in its half of the 4th inning of the finale thanks to a RBI-single from Tracey Clark and a bunt single by Ashley Fama. The go-ahead run came across in the 6th inning as Nubia Enriquez singled to center field, scoring Fama from second after she led off the inning with a single.

The Eagles gave Brown all the support she would need in the first inning of the opening game, scoring twice before the Lions came to the plate. Caitlyn Senkbeil singled to lead off the game, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Enriquez, then scored two batters later on a single by Jamie Van Dijk. An error allowed a second run to score to account for all of the offense.

Senkbeil and Evans each led the way for Concordia, going 3-for-7 over the two games with a run scored each. Rachel Bomgren had a pair of hits in the first game for Vanguard (24-27, 4-16), while Jenna Willis was 2-for-2 with a run scored in the finale.

Concordia wraps up the 2006 regular season on April 29 with a non-conference doubleheader against Chapman University (Calif.) at noon.
