FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan University set a new NAIA standard on the softball field, recording its 46th home run on the season during the second game of a doubleheader sweep against Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.). TWU won 5-1 and 7-3 on March 23.
Marie Stone's home run in game two gave the Lady Rams 46 on the season, setting a new NAIA single-season record. The previous record was 45 set by Oregon Institute of Technology during the 2002 season. The dinger was Stone's 11th on the year.
The Lady Rams have hit at least one home run in 17 of their first 24 games this season. They hit a school-record six home runs in a 19-10 win against Concordia University-Austin (Texas) on March 14.
Tara Sharp has already set the school's single-season record with 15 home runs, while Rachel Hampton's 24 career homers to tie the school record.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday when they travel to the College of the Southwest (N.M.) for a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader.
