SAVANNAH, Ga. - Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) opened its play in the SCAD Smash Tournament by smashing an NAIA record-tying seven home runs in its win against Walsh University (Ohio) on March 7. TNU scored a 9-1 victory as Stephanie Fisher picked up the win with seven strikeouts. Trevecca hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth and again in the fifth for the record. Jennifer Perkins led Trevecca with two home runs and three RBI's.
The seven-home runs ties an NAIA record set in 2005 when Dana College (Neb.) scored seven in a game against Mount Marty College (S.D.).
Hosted by Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.), the game was a part of one of the largest softball tournaments around. It runs from March 1-16 and features 34 teams in 108 games. In the tournament's third year, the games feature NAIA teams as well as NCAA DII and DIII teams in pre-determined games.
