2022-23 NAIA Men's Swimmer/Diver of the Month

Swimmers/Divers are evaluated on their performance during the month prior to the announcement. Each swimmer/diver is selected out of a pool of nominees from around the country.

Month 4 (February 10, 2023)

Swimmer of the Month: Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira, Cumberlands (Ky.)

Gonzalez de Oliveira earned MSC Swimmer of the Year honors after a dominating performance at the conference championships. He took top honors in all three of his individual events while anchoring the Patriots relays. He won the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:39.38 to earn an "A" cut. Ruben capped off the championship by winning the 100 free with a time of 45.30, as he currently ranks second in the NAIA in this event. Ruben was critical on Patriot relays and help UC capture their fifth straight conference title.

Month 3 (January 27, 2023)

Swimmer of the Month: Jack Fries, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.)

Fries was either the champion or runner-up in all five of his individual events this month, including a first and second-place finish against NCAA D-II opponent Davenport. He hit the NAIA provisional standard in all of his individual events.

Month 2 (December 16, 2022)

Swimmer of the Month: Jokubas Jankauskas, Cumberlands (Ky.)

   Jankauskas had an unbelievable month going 5-5 on wins with 2 "A" cuts and a provisional cut. He broke five school records in the process and he is ranked top-3 in the NAIA in three of the five events. The freshman went 1:48.47 to win the 200 back with the fastest time in the NAIA and was 1.5 seconds ahead of the "A" standard. He opened the month setting UC 200 IM record with a 1:50.60, that record stood for over 20 years. He also broke the 100-back record which was established in 2013. He has been essential on the Patriots medley relay teams that both ranked third in the NAIA.

Month 1 (November 11, 2022)

Swimmer of the Month: Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira, Cumberlands (Ky.)

   Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira has been dominant this season with seven wins, and four provisional cuts, and is ranked in the top 5 of the NAIA in five events. He clocked a 46.04 in the 100 free which ranks 3rd in the NAIA, while he holds the fourth fastest time in both the 50 free and 200 free. Ruben has been instrumental on the Patriots relays that are ranked 3rd in the NAIA and helped move UC to fifth in the country. 

Nominees: Nicholas Klenner, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Bence Merész, Life (Ga.), and Guillermo Usechi, West Virginia Tech.
