2023 NAIA Football Players of the Week - No. 7 (October 16)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -  K'Vonte Baker of Friends (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Football Offensive Player of the Week, Nate Frey from Marian (Ind.) has been named the NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week, and Cole Thompson of Friends (Kan.) has been named the NAIA Football Special Teams Player of the Week.  The trio was selected based on their performances from October 9-15 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/Continental Athletic Conference (Independents)/unaffiliated group nominees. 

Players of the Week are announced weekly throughout the regular-season on Monday's on naia.org, Instagram and Twitter.

NAIA Football Offensive Player of the Week

K'Vonte Baker, Friends (Kan.) - SO - Quarterback

  • Rushed for 122 yards and threw for a career-high 119 yards. 
  • Accumulated four touchdowns in a 35-20 victory over No. 6-ranked Southwestern (Kan.). 
  • Leads the nation in rushing touchdowns (16).  

 


NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week

Nate Frey, Marian (Ind.) - SR - Defensive Back

  • Led all players in the game from the safety position with a career-high 13 tackles.
  • Broke up a pass and made a tackle for loss, for his best game as a Knight. 
  • Helped Marian defeated No. 10 Concordia (Mich.). 

 


NAIA Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Cole Thompson, Friends (Kan.) - FR - Kicker

  • Made 5-of-6 of his kicks, including both field goal attempts that included a career-high 49 yarder. 
  • Helped upset No. 6-ranked Southwestern (Kan.)
  • Punted twice, with one landing inside the 20 along with a 47-yard kickoff.
