2018 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships Field Revealed
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 36 team, 93 individual field has been announced for the 63rd Annual NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championships that will be held on November 16. The event will take place at Seminole Valley Cross Country Course in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The women’s 5–kilometer race will begin at 10:30 a.m. CST.
- This is the first time in NAIA Cross Country Championships history that the race will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mount Mercy (Iowa) will host again in 2020.
- The field is made up of 24 automatic qualifiers (AQ), one host berth and 11 at-large berths. A team received an automatic berth by winning the conference championship meet or was the meet runner-up and ranked in the top 30 final poll.
- Three conferences received two automatic berths: Appalachian Athletic Conference, Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Plains Athletic Conference. In addition to the meet champion, the meet runner-up that is ranked in the top 30 final poll also received an automatic berth.
- Mount Mercy (Iowa) earned the host berth.
- The 11 at-large berths are determined by the final regular-season Coaches’ Top 25 Poll that can be seen by clicking here. These teams received an at-large berth – Aquinas (Mich.), Southern Oregon, Wayland Baptist (Texas), College of Idaho, Cornernstone (Mich.), Northwest Christian (Ore.), Indiana Wesleyan, St. Thomas (Fla.), Indiana Tech, Rocky Mountain (Mont.), Southeastern (Fla.).
- In addition to the team qualifiers and at-large bids, 93 athletes will compete as individual qualifiers.
- British Columbia was the 2017 cross country women’s champion.
- Fans can watch the post-race awards ceremony free beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m. CST. The national championship event takes place on Nov. 16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the Seminole Valley Cross Country Course.
