2017 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week ? No. 5 (April 19)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Anna Shields of Point Park (Pa.) has been named the NAIA National Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week and Chelsea Baker of Friends (Kan.) has been named the NAIA National Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Shields and Baker were selected based on their performances from April 10 – 16.
Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week:
Anna Shields, Point Park (Pa.)
So., Torrington, Conn.
• Recorded a second-place finish in the 800-meter run and a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa.,on April 14-15.
• Shields finished second out of 124 NCAA Division I runners in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:09.41, which is the second best time in the NAIA.
• Finished third in the 1500-meter run out of 62 athletes with a time of 4:22.35, which is second in the NAIA.
• Shields continued to advance her personal best time in both events.
Chelsea Baker, Friends (Kan.)
Jr., Pittsburg, Kan.
• Recorded a first-place finish in the high jump, a fifth-place finish in the triple jump and a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon at the Wichita State (Kan.) KT Woodman Classic on April 12-15.
• Baker qualified for nationals as she garnered 4,664 points in the heptathlon. Her score of 4,664 ranks No. 2 in the NAIA.
• During the heptathlon, Baker hit a new school record in the high jump as she cleared 1.79m which tops the NAIA.
• Baker hit the ‘A’ standard in the high jump clearing 1.73m to win the event out of 31 athletes.
• In the triple jump, Baker went 11.79 to hit the ‘A’ standard with a mark that ranks No. 3 in the NAIA.
