2021 NAIA Women's Indoor Track & Field National Championship

Yankton, S.D. – Indiana Tech cruised to their second title in program history, racking up a total of 111 points in the 41st annual NAIA Women’s Indoor Track & Field Nation Championship at Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse on the campus of Mount Marty (S.D.) Friday.

• Leondra Correia led the Warriors by scoring 38 points in the national meet, where she was named to the Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Performer awards. She took first place in the pentathlon on Wednesday

• Correia also captured a pair of national titles on Friday, clearing the height of 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches). She later earned her second title in three years in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.62 seconds.

• Correia was also fifth in the long jump (5.68 meters – 18 feet, 7.75 inches) and sixth in the triple jump (11.70 meters – 38 feet, 4.75 inches).

• Indiana Tech never trailed in the national meet, kicking off the day with Loanie Cellard winning the 3000-meter racewalk in 14:33.43.

• William Carey (Miss.) finished second in the team standings with 63 points. It was the second consecutive year that the Crusaders were runner-up in the national meet.

• Aniekeme Etim of William Carey repeated both 60m and 200m national titles. She posted a time of 7.35 seconds in the 60m dash and 24.13 seconds in the 200m.

• Brittany Jones of William Carey won both long and triple jumps. She made it two straight national titles in the long jump, leaping 6.11 meters (20 feet, .5 inches). It was the first time since 2014 that a long jumper had hit better than 6 meters (Akela Jones of Oklahoma Baptist – 6.26 meters).

• Jones posted a measurement of 12.34m (40 feet, 6 inches) in the triple jump for William Carey.

• Three Great Plains Athletic Conference teams finished in the top six, led by Concordia (Neb.) with a third-place finish with 49 points. Dordt (Iowa) was fifth with 35 points, followed by Hastings (Neb.) with 34 points.

• Rachel Battershell of Concordia (Neb.) earned her second straight 400m dash national title. She hit a time of 56.03 seconds in the second heat.

• Friends (Kan.) edged out Dordt (Iowa) by one point (36-35) to place fourth in the team standings.

• Aileen Gurrola of Friends won the 600-meter run in 1:33.21.

• Aubry Donley of Friends added the 800m run national title with a time of 2:13.69.

• Emma Wilson of Huntington (Ind.) – last year's team’s national champion – picked up three national titles. She dominated the 1-mile run by recording a time of four minutes, 48.94 seconds.

• Wilson also won the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:58.89, edging out Avery DeWolf of Milligan (Tenn.) in 10:01.01.

• Wilson teamed up with Sydney Lambert, Amylia Ostopovich, and Jessica Chojnacki on the Huntington’s distance medley relay team that won the national title. The team hit a time of 11 minutes, 56.94 seconds.

• Taylor (Ind.) won in a thrilling fashion to win their first 4x800 national title. The team of Abbey Brennan, Giovanna Domene, O’Corinne Leary, and Brooke Studnicki produced a time of 9:18.25.

• Nygia Pollard of Cornerstone (Mich.) became the first female to win a national title in program history. She clocked a time of 17:36.71 to win the 5000m run.

• Nikki Krueger of Carroll (Mont.) won the shot-put title on her last attempt. She tossed 14.12 meters (46 feet, 4 inches) on the sixth toss, defeating Paige Sutter of Indiana Wesleyan who finished second (14.03 meters – 46 feet, .5 inches) on the third try.

• LaVon Davis of Grand View (Iowa) repeated the weight throw national title after throwing 19.21m (63 feet, .25 inches). It was the third consecutive year that a Viking thrower won the national weight throw title (Michelle Carrillo – 2019).

• Lisa Voyles of Cumberlands (Ky.) won the 1000-meter run in 2:53.71. It was the first female national individual title in program history.

• The final running event closed out with Southeastern (Fla.) winning the 4x400m relay in 3:49.12. The relay team of Yuriah Bigos, Miyah Ford, Namiah Simpson, and Courtney Gales became the first Fire 4x400m relay team to win the national relay title in program history.
