MOBILE, Ala. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE] Despite Middle Georgia State delivering the day's lone upset, the other seven higher seeds advanced, including the top four squads in the nation as the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships Quarterfinals materialized on Wednesday (May 19) morning at the Mobile Tennis Center. The remaining eight seeds face off on Thursday (May 20) morning at 9 a.m. to determine the nation's final four teams.


Second Round Notes / Highlights

MATCH 9 | #1 Georgia Gwinnett (20-0) def. #18 Reinhardt (Ga.) (8-8), 4-0

• The Grizzlies continued its dominance into the Second Round, dispatching Reinhardt on Iryna Lysykh's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Taylor Nelson at the fourth singles flight.
• Marta Maestro completed Georgia Gwinnett's first sweep of the morning over Elise Standing at the bottom flight.

• The Eagles' Ana Rodriguez held a 6-5 first-set advantage over Tereza Koplova before the match was finalized.

• Doubles action finished quickly with GGC's second and third teams coming up with 6-2 and 6-1 wins, respectively.


MATCH 10 | #6 SCAD Savannah (Ga.) (7-2) def. #9 William Carey (Miss.) (10-5), 4-3

• William Carey took the 1-0 lead into singles play, running through doubles action quickly with 6-1 and 6-2 wins at the bottom two flights.

• Nastassia Chamoun's 6-0, 7-5 win at the five slot over Tova Tilk Tobrand gave the Crusaders a commanding 3-1 lead.

• Both the third and fourth singles flights featured dramatics, with SCAD winning both nail-biters, including Eika Johanna Weber's 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at the three spot.

• SCAD clinched the come-from-behind win on Yu Yue's 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory at the second flight.


MATCH 11 | #12 Middle Georgia State (7-4) def. #5 Montreat (N.C.) (12-6), 4-2

• Alexia Desmet and Franziska Nobis teamed up at the two doubles for a 6-2 win, capturing the doubles point for Middle Georgia State.

• Valerie Quiceno's 6-4, 6-2 win over Margot Fontaine at the second singles flight tied the match at two apiece.

• Steffany Bermudez gave the Knights a lead with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 at the four spot, before Rebeca Lopez clinched the only upset of the Second Round with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 win over Annika Beckmann at the bottom flight.


MATCH 12 | #4 Indiana Wesleyan (32-4) def. #13 Tennessee Wesleyan (12-7), 4-0

• Twin 6-1 victories at the first and third doubles flights handed the Wildcats a quick 1-0 advantage.

• Maddie Bemisderfer's 6-1, 6-2 victory at the top spot doubled IWU's lead.

• Winning the second-set tiebreak 7-4, Melanie Dveksler ousted Linda Dimitroff 6-2, 7-6 to clinch the contest.

MATCH 13 | #3 Xavier (La.) (20-5) def. #14 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (16-3), 4-0

• Kyra Akinnibi and Farah Baklouti pieced together a 7-5 win at the bottom flight over Parisa Rachdanone and Salome Sposetti to hand Xavier the doubles point.

• Angelica De Vincenzi notched a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fifth flight to move the Gold Rush within one point of advancing.

• XULA finished the sweep with Lailaa Bashir's 6-2, 6-2 win over Lucia Mora at the two spot, extending the squad's winning streak to six.


MATCH 14 | #7 Union (Ky.) (15-2) def. #10 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) (12-6), 4-1

• The Wolves took a 1-0 lead into singles play when Lisa Keller and Assya Trimari took down Teodora Jovic and Nicole Viljoen at the two spot, 7-6.

• Singles play was all Union as the Bulldogs rattled off four consecutive victories to clinch the contest.

• After dropping the first set, 6-2, Union's Alba Rodenas ended the match at the six spot by nabbing 6-3 wins in the second and third sets.


MATCH 15 | #8 LSU Alexandria (La.) (10-2) def. #11 William Woods (Mo.) (15-6), 4-1

• After quickly grabbing the doubles point, the Generals took a 3-0 lead on Niamh Packer's 6-2, 6-2 win over Mireia Jordan at the fifth slot.

• William Woods stayed alive, thanks to Ana Zavala's 6-3, 6-2 win at the two spot over Alicia Romero Gomez.

• At the bottom flight, Patricia Martinez Molina used 7-5 and 6-3 decisions to advance LSUA.


MATCH 16 | #2 Kesier (Fla.) (13-1) def. #16 Cumberlands (Ky.) (20-4), 4-0

• With 6-1 and 6-3 wins at the second and third flights, respectively, the Seahawks never looked back as it entered singles action.

• Maissane Aik posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at the four to double Keiser's advantage.

• Also in 6-1, 6-1 fashion, Hannah Lairmore ended the contest at the second spot, defeating Mikaela Fros.
