MOBILE, Ala. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE] The tournament's top four seeds - Georgia Gwinnett, Keiser (Fla.), Xavier (La.) and Indiana Wesleyan - all landed quarterfinal victories and advanced to the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships Semifinals on Friday (May 21) morning at 9 a.m. Three of the four contests were sweeps, with Middle Georgia State taking a lone point from Indiana Wesleyan.


Second Round Notes / Highlights

MATCH 17 | #1 Georgia Gwinnett (21-0) def. #6 SCAD Savannah (Ga.) (7-3), 4-0

• The top-seeded Grizzlies entered singles play safely securing the doubles point behind 6-2 and 6-0 scores at the first and third flights, respectively.

• Liza VelyKorodna's 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the bottom singles flight doubled GGC's advantage.

• Iryna Lysykh ended the contest with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Eika Johanna Weber at the three spot.

• The Bees took sets at the top two spots before the matchups were suspended.

» Georgia Gwinnett advances to its seventh-consecutive National Championship semifinal round.


MATCH 18 | #4 Indiana Wesleyan (33-4) def. #12 Middle Georgia State (7-5), 4-1

• Aynara Armas and Emily Connolly teamed up at the third doubles slot to clinch the point for the Wildcats behind a 6-3 win over Anna Ruiz and Steffany Bermudez.

• After losses at the bottom two flights, the Knights found the scoreboard when Alexia Desmet took a 6-0, 7-5 decision from Thewuni Devaraja at the three spot.

• The comeback was short lived, however, as Thais Mendez ended the match at the four, clinching a 6-4, 7-5 win for the Wildcats over Steffany Bermudez.

» Indiana Wesleyan advances to its first-ever National Championship semifinal round.


MATCH 19 | #3 Xavier (La.) (21-5) def. #7 Union (Ky.) (15-3), 4-0

• The Bulldogs' Teodora Jovic and Nicole Viljoen scored a 6-2 win at two doubles, but the Gold Nuggets captured the doubles point after Kyra Akinnibi and Farah Baklouti posted a 6-2 win of its own at the bottom flight.

• Angela Charles-Alfred and Baklouti produced a pair of wins at the middle flights of three and four.

• Valentina Largacha iced the contest with a 6-4, 6-0 clincher versus Alba Rodenas at the bottom flight to end the match.

» Xavier advances to its sixth-ever National Championship semifinal round.


MATCH 20 | #2 Keiser (Fla.) (21-4) def. #8 LSU Alexandria (La.) (10-3), 4-0

• With doubles play tied at one apiece, the Generals nearly snatched the doubles point away from Keiser, but Camilla Abatte and Dugleisy Linarez outlasted Alicia Romero Gomez and Niamh Packer, 7-5, at the two spot.

• Isabella Perez's 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth singles slot doubled the Seahawk advantage, and the Seahawks moved within clinching distance with Hannah Lairmore's 6-4, 6-0 win at the second spot.

• In a battle of ones, Abatte's 6-3, 6-2 decision bested Darija Mladenovic, ousting LSU Alexandria from the tournament.

» Keiser advances to its fourth-consecutive National Championship semifinal round.
