2019 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll – Poll No. 3 (September 25, 2019)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After spending the early stages of 2019 ranked No. 2, Keiser (Fla.) climbed into the No. 1 position in the Top 25, the first No. 1 rating for the Seahawks since Oct. 18, 2016. After a loss to Westmont (Calif.) on Thursday, William Carey (Miss.) slid to No. 2 as Benedictine (Kan.) and Northwestern Ohio both made positive movement in the top five.
Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999)
- Keiser has rattled-off four straight victories since its lone loss to William Carey on September 9.
- The Seahawks picked-up impressive, back-to-back, 1-0 wins against No. 4 Northwestern Ohio and Hope International (Calif.)
- William Carey was handed its first loss of the season by Westmont in a 3-0 decision.
- Benedictine jumped one spot again to No. 3 as the Ravens have found success against both conference and non-conference opponents alike in 2019. The team from Atchison, Kan., wrapped-up its week with a 7-0 victory over William Penn (Iowa).
- Since a 4-3 win over Southeastern (Fla.), Benedictine has allowed just two goals over the course of seven games and is outscoring its opponents 31-2 in that span.
- Northwestern Ohio made its first appearance in the top five this week at No. 4. The Racers’ lone loss on the year came at the hands of No. 1 Keiser on Thursday before ending the weekend with a 1-0 win over then-No. 3 Southeastern.
- Westmont made the most positive movement this week with a 12-point jump to No. 10, spurred by its victory over William Carey.
- Spring Arbor continues to hold the longest active Top 25 Poll streak, moving to 100 consecutive appearances in the poll. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) holds the national record since 1999 with 203 consecutive appearances, which was stopped on Oct. 24, 2017. Keiser (Fla.) is right behind Spring Arbor, extending its streak to 98 weeks.
- Lindsey Wilson own the most No. 1 rankings since 1999 with 58, followed by former member Azusa Pacific (Calif.) with 32. Spring Arbor is in third with 23 followed closely by Westmont (Calif.) and former member Concordia (Ore.) with 19 apiece.
Poll Methodology
- The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
- The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
- The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.
- Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes.”
