2019 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll – Poll No. 1 (September 11, 2019)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – William Carey (Miss.) has done nothing but win since November 17 of the 2018 season. The Crusaders’, thanks in large part to their 4-0 start during the ratings period, have kept the defending national champions in the top spot in the first regular season poll of 2019.
Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999)
- William Carey finished with all 18 first-place votes and has outscored its opponents 15-0 in this ratings period.
- The Crusaders are 5-0 on the year, but 4-0 during the period which was considered for this poll. Since that point, they tacked-on a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2-ranked Keiser (Fla.).
- Keiser stayed-put in the No. 2 spot while conference rival Southeastern (Fla), also remained just behind at No. 3. The next game up for the Seahawks is their third top-25 game in a row when they go on the road to face No. 17 Georgia Gwinnett.
- After a double overtime loss to No. 5 Benedictine (Kan.) in the season opener, Southeastern has bounced back to win its last four. Uchenna Kanu leads the team with six goals on the year.
- Martin Methodist (Tenn.) jumped into the top five for the first time in 2019 with a 3-0 start. The team from Pulaski, Tenn., put together wins against a talented (RV) Columbia (Mo.) squad on the road in the season opener and earned a 3-2 victory over the weekend against No. 18 Cumberland (Tenn.)
- Spring Arbor continues to hold the longest active Top 25 Poll streak, moving to 98 consecutive appearances in the poll. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) holds the national record since 1999 with 203 consecutive appearances, which was stopped on Oct. 24, 2017. Keiser (Fla.) is right behind Spring Arbor, extending its streak to 96 weeks.
- Lindsey Wilson own the most No. 1 rankings since 1999 with 58, followed by former member Azusa Pacific (Calif.) with 32. Spring Arbor is in third with 23 followed closely by Westmont (Calif.) and former member Concordia (Ore.) with 19 apiece.
Poll Methodology
- The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
- The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
- The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.
- Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes.”
