Recap of Day 2 NAIA Women's Bowling Championship

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – [BRACKET | SCHEDULE | LIVE STREAM] The 2022 NAIA Women’s Bowling Championship continued on Saturday at Five Star Lanes with match play in a best-of-five baker games format.

 

Highlights

  • Two lower seeds emerged in Round 1 as No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan upset No. 7 Indiana Tech 3-1 while No. 12 William Penn edged by No. 5 Pikeville 3-2. Midland (Neb.) was the only team to sweep their competition in the round. 
  • Round two saw only one match-up go four sets and the other three games went to a fifth. William Penn (Iowa) and Midland (Neb.) upset their opponents in the round as St. Francis (Ill.) and SCAD Savannah (Ga.) as the higher seeds moved on in their respective matches. 
  • Round four in the winners bracket saw WPU and Midland continue the upset train into round five where the two would meet. The teams went five sets before Midland advanced to become the first team to advance to the final. 
  • All four higher seeds prevailed in Round 3 (first elimination round) but No. 8 Saint Xavier bounced No. 3 Baker in the second elimination round.
  • After being bumped to the elimination bracket, Kansas Wesleyan found some traction and won four games to land in round six where they will open competition on Saturday. 
  • St. Xavier started to make a run in the elimination bracket with two wins under their belt until they were met by SCAD Savannah with a close four-set game.
  • SCAD Savannah advanced to round six where they will face Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday morning. The winner will play William Penn (Iowa) for the final spot in the championship game. 

Day three starts at 8:30 am ET/7:30 am CT on Sunday with the women’s championship set for 2 p.m.
