Day One of the 2025 NAIA Softball Opening Rounds Had Everything from Walk Off Wins to Upsets, and a 10 Inning Game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Day one of the 2025 NAIA Softball Opening Rounds was an exciting one as one bracket featured nothing but upsets, while another saw a game go 10 innings.

The 10 NAIA Softball Opening Round sites around the nation all had something to talk about. In the pacific northwest city of Ashland, Oregon, play was suspended in game three between Southern Oregon and College of Idaho in the bottom of the fourth with the Raiders leading 2-1 due to weather.

In the Sooner state of Oklahoma, at host institution Science & Arts (Okla.), Grand View (Iowa) posted a quick five-inning shut-out win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), 8-0, while the Drovers escaped the first day with a 5-3 win over Stillman (Ala.)

In the southeastern part of the country, we had our longest game of the day in the Lawrenceville, Ga., pod as St. Thomas (Fla.) and Evangel (Mo.) went 10 innings before the Bobcats walked it off for a 3-2 victory.

In the north, the Eagles of Reinhardt (Ga.) came to play. Winning both games on day one, upsetting Coastal Georgia 2-1, then top-seeded Madonna (Mich.) 4-2. Rio Grande (Ohio) also picked up a win over host institution Indiana Wesleyan, 4-2, to square off against the Eagles tomorrow afternoon.
Down in San Antonio, Texas, Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and Eastern Oregon both won their respective games.

Then nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, at host institution Cumberlands (Ky.), they were plagued with rain for most of the day, delaying the start of game one between the Patriots and Cornerstone (Mich.), but were able to get started later in the evening. Including the final game of the first day between Mobile (Ala.) and Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Rams tied it all up at 3-3 in the top of the seventh before TAMUT recorded a leadoff triple to start the bottom of the frame and earn the walk-off win.

How did the seeds one through five fare on day one?
No. 1: 8-1
No. 2: 7-3
No. 3: 2-7
No. 4: 4-10
No. 5: 5-5
