McSpadden Named 2021-22 NAIA Softball Coach of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Phil McSpadden of Oklahoma City has been named the 2021-22 NAIA Softball Coach of the Year.

McSpadden guided Oklahoma City to its 11th NAIA World Series title in 2022 as his team went undefeated in Columbus, Ga. In 2022, the Stars’ skipper led his team to a 26-2 record in their final 28 games. The team also went a perfect 11-0 in the final 11 games of the year and outscored its opponents 51-5 in that span.

Oklahoma City finished the season 54-6 and outscored opponents 9-1 at the 2022 NAIA Softball World Series. Overall, the Stars finished the year ranked in the top five in seven offensive categories including batting average and stolen bases.

Over the course of his legendary career, McSpadden has amassed 1,843 wins since beginning as the head coach at Oklahoma City in 1988 season. He now has 11 national titles to his credit and has coached 111 NAIA All-America selections.

The NAIA Softball National Coach of the Year is selected through an election process following the annual World Series involving all NAIA Softball Coaches. All conference, Continental Athletic Conference and unaffiliated group coaches of the year as well as the World Series quarterfinalists are included on the ballot.
