World Series Notes:

• The 10 World Series teams qualified by winning their respective National Championship Opening Rounds, played out May 14-16 at nine different venues. The Opening Rounds consisted of four teams playing in double-elimination format.
• The double-elimination 38th annual event takes place at Legends Way Ball Fields in Clermont, Fla., for the second-straight year. PFX Athletics is the official event host.
• The World Series begins with a No. 7 / No. 10 match-up between Mobile (Ala.) and Columbia (Mo.) on Friday at 10 a.m. EDT. Mobile leads the all-time series between the clubs in World Series action by a 2-0 record, defeating the Cougars in 2004 and 2008.
• Ten-time and back-to-back defending national champion Oklahoma City qualified for its 31st all-time NAIA Softball World Series and 26th in the last 27 years. The Stars hold NAIA records for most NAIA World Series wins (125), appearances and national titles. Oklahoma City is trying to three-peat for the first time since the Stars accomplished the feat from 2000-02. Last year, Oklahoma City won its record 10th title with a 4-1 victory over Corban (Ore.) on June 1.
• Oklahoma City (10) and Mobile (1) are the only qualifiers to win a previous World Series title.
• Top seed Georgia Gwinnett is looking to become the third-straight No. 1 seed to win the title and fourth in the last six events to accomplish the feat.
• Five teams are back after competing in the 2017 event: Columbia, Indiana Wesleyan, Marian (Ind.), Oklahoma City and Southern Oregon.
• Three programs – Faulkner (Ala.), Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and Georgia Gwinnett – all are making their inaugural World Series appearance.
• Amongst teams who have previously qualified, Science & Arts (Okla.) is snapping the longest NAIA World Series drought with its last appearance back in 2006.
• Indiana Wesleyan leads the batch of qualifiers with 57 wins on the season. Four others – Science & Arts (53), Georgia Gwinnett (52), Oklahoma City (51) and Marian (50) – all have at least 50 victories.
• Columbia enters the World Series with the longest season-win streak at 10-straight victories. The Cougars rolled through the Fayette Opening Round Bracket with a 3-0 record. The last loss happened on April 22 against William Woods (Mo.) in the final stretch of the regular season.
• PFX Athletics is an organization in Clermont that was founded by Dot Richardson in 1996. The organization prides itself on helping girls and women having the chance to make their athletic dreams come true. PFX started as an athletic training organization, and was the non-profit portion of the PFX Tour from 2006- 2011. In 2014, PFX Athletics was selected to manage the Legends Way Ball Fields by hosting and promoting local, state, national and international softball events.
• The city of Clermont is the 15th host city for this event. Two other Florida cities served as hosts for the event, with Pensacola hosting in 1990 and 1992, and Jupiter in 1999.
