SIOUX CITY, Iowa – (Box Score) William Carey (Miss.) freshman pitcher Hannah Moak stifled the No. 4 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) bats as the Crusaders stayed alive by a 3-1 score in the elimination bracket of the 35th Annual NAIA Softball World Series, presented by Security National Bank and Morningside College. The eighth-seeded Crusaders did not explode offensively, but did enough in a three-run third inning to live to play another day.

William Carey will now hit the field on Monday at 10 a.m. CDT against the loser of No. 2 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) / No. 7 Oregon Tech.

Moak, the team leader in wins (19), ERA (1.65), innings pitched (169.2) and strikeouts (117), went the full seven innings and gave up one run on five hits. She posted two strikeouts and allowed three walks. Moak has now appeared in 10 2/3 innings in the World Series and allowed two earned runs on 10 hits.

In the bottom of the third frame, William Carey’s Chelsea Nette drew a walk with one out. With two on base, Hannah Cook-Kelly ripped a single to center field to plate two runs. Those RBIs were her 37th and 38th of the year. Cook-Kelley touched home on a single by Kimberly Gilbert. At that point, the Crusaders held a 3-0 lead.

Moak was cruising along early as she sat down 10 of the first 11 Campbellsville batters in the game. However, with one out in the top of the fourth inning, the Tigers’ Brianna Scott advanced to second on a ground out. She then came around to score on a double by Kristin Benton. Moak forced a pop-out to end the Campbellsville threat.

In the final three innings, Moak stranded five base runners, including the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

Offensively, lead-off hitter Relanda McFarland led the Crusaders with two hits and one run scored. It was McFarland’s 26th multi-hit game of the year. Four other William Carey batters posted a hit.

Benton went 1-for-3 at the plate for Campbellsville with a RBI.

Victoria Decker was the pitcher of record and fell to 19-5 for Campbellsville. She went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits. She struck out four batters.

With a 0-2 World Series record, Campbellsville ends its year with a 38-11 mark.
