Mobile Takes Down No. 1 Auburn Montgomery & No. 3 Reinhardt

Story by Matt Hicks, Mobile Sports Information

MONTGOMERY, Ala.-- The University of Mobile (Ala.) softball team shut out third-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) and top-ranked Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) on the final day of the AUM/Faulkner Invitational Saturday, beating the Eagles 3-0 and the Warhawks 5-0.

Mobile (3-1) will visit NCAA-II Spring Hill College (Ala.) Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. for a doubleheader.

The Lady Rams scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings against defending National Champion AUM and that was plenty as Makayla Scott tossed a complete-game shutout, holding the Warhawks to only five hits, while walking none.

Jordan Coleman started the scoring with a RBI-hit in the first and then Anna Blake Barnette touched home on Brandee Reyna's RBI-groundout to make it 2-0.

In the second, AUM committed a pair of errors within the first four hitters and Barnette and Coleman drove in runs.

Coleman finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Carley Toretta and Taylor Clinkenbeard each added a pair of hits.

This was the first time AUM has been shutout in the last 42 games. Mobile snaps a five-game losing streak in the series and gets its first shutout win against the Warhawks since March 20, 2011.

Against Reinhardt, Mackensie Williams picked up her first win of the season, holding the third-ranked Eagles to only one hit and three walks in a complete-game effort. Williams took a no-hitter into the final inning and was one out away from pulling of the feat before Maddie Evans singled with two outs.

Mobile backed Williams with a run in the first and two in the sixth.

Ashley Middleton drove in the first run on a RBI-groundout and then started the two-run sixth with a leadoff double. She scored on an Eagle error and then Kaitlyn Wood capped the inning with a RBI-groundout.

Middleton finished 2-for-4 in the game with a RBI and a run scored, while Clinkenbeard went 1-for-2 with a run scored from the leadoff spot.
