UHV?s Lambeth collects 200th victory

Story by Paul Ebner, Houston-Victoria Sports Information

Completing a doubleheader sweep over Northwood (Texas) on Sunday, Houston-Victoria (Texas) softball coach Keri Lambeth reached a new milestone picking up her 200th-career coaching victory with the Jaguars.

Behind a 13-5 six-inning victory in the second game of the doubleheader, Lambeth saw her record improve to 200-92 in her sixth season as the Jaguars’ head coach. The Jaguars claimed the opening game 10-4.

“It’s a great day for our program and I thank each young lady that has helped me to reach this milestone,” Lambeth said after the game.

Lambeth’s previous five teams have averaged 30-plus wins each season and this year’s team has an opportunity to match those marks as the Jaguars currently stand at 21-17. Her Jaguars are also on a 10-game win streak.

The Jaguars have appeared in two NAIA National Championships (2009 and 2012) under Lambeth and have won one Association of Independent Institutions Conference championship.

A former catcher for the University of Houston, Lambeth has mentored four NAIA All-Americans Kristen Lindley (2009), Amber Scott (2009), Tasha Rotramel (2009), and Emily Bergstrom (2011 and 2012). She has also coached two Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans in Allison Hinton (2010) and Bergstrom (2012). She has also coached one Capitol One Academic All-American (Bergstrom, 2012), along with 11 all-region and 15 all-conference players.

“I didn’t do it alone,” said Lambeth. “We have an amazing coaching staff and a good group of Jaguars.”

The Jaguars banged out 35 hits Sunday to complete the sweep over Northwood and win the season series 3-1.

Senior Brittany Arredondo went 8-for-8 in the two games and extended her season-high hitting streak to 23 games. The streak is also a UHV school record that snapped a 21-game streak by Lindley in 2009.

Marley Moehrig and Jenna West also combined to go 10-for-16 and drove in 10 runs in the two games.
