Pool D Recap: Day One (Thursday)

GULF SHORES, Ala. - (LU vs. RU Box Score) (CBC vs. MC Box Score) The top two teams in Pool D held serve as Central Baptist (Ark.) and Lee (Tenn.) were victorious on day one of pool play action Thursday. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex for the second-straight year.

Lee opened by blanking Reinhardt (Ga.), 2-0, and then Central Baptist run-ruled Morningside (Iowa), 8-0, in six innings. The Mustangs scored in four of the six innings, with eleven hits and five doubles.

The Central Baptist offensive outburst made a winner out of Jessica Bock, who twirled six innings of three-hit shutout ball. She struck out nine and walked two. Seven different Mustang hitters recorded a hit, and six different batters drove in a run. Christen Kirchner and Samantha Luther each had two hits and two RBI, while Kiara Bonner added two runs and two hits.

After scoring one on two hits and two errors in the first inning, the Mustangs took command with a three-run, second inning. Kirchner singled home a pair to cap the scoring in the inning. They tacked on three more in the fifth thanks to RBI-doubles from Luther and Tracy Ratliff.

The Lady Flames did not need a hit to score the game's final run in the fifth. Dominique Hannah reached on a fielder's choice with two outs, swiped second and third base and scored on an errant throw.
