GULF SHORES, Ala. - (WBC vs. WIU Box Score) (OCU vs. TU Box Score) Newcomer Williams Baptist (Ark.) and all-time wins leader Oklahoma City both performed shutouts in Pool C action at the NAIA Softball National Championship on Thursday. The event is being held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex for the second-straight year.

 In their first National Championship in school history, the Eagles blanked Webber International (Fla.), 2-0. Shelby Anderson tossed her ninth shutout of the year by going the distance. She allowed five hits, walked two and struck out a pair. The freshman got out of trouble when she needed as she saw three runners advance to scoring position.

Chelsea Sanders had the big blow offensively, for the Eagles in the sixth inning. Her two-out, two-RBI single to shallow left was the difference. She teamed up with Felicia Woodard to pace the hitting attack with a pair of base hits for Williams Baptist.

Webber International's Ashlee Quigley was tagged with the loss as she went 7.0 innings. She fanned seven batters, walked one and allowed six hits. Jessica Lanci and Brittany Spencer combined for four of the five Warrior hits.

The Stars, winners of more national titles (8) and championship games (104) than any team in NAIA history, took care of Thomas (Ga.), 8-0. Oklahoma City poured it on early with seven runs in the first three innings. That was plenty of offense for senior Lily LaVelle. Moving to 37-3 on the year, LaVelle posted 14 strikeouts and allowed a mere three singles. At one point, LaVelle mowed down 10 of 11 Thomas batters via the strikeout.

LaVelle was a star at the plate as well. She homered in the third, doubled in the fifth and singled in the seventh to come up a triple shy of the cycle. Overall, she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Four other Stars pounded out two hits each.

The Night Hawks fell to 21-29 on the season. The team managed three hits courtesy of Kortney Campbell, Alexa Fair and Alyssa Bork. Fair took the loss as she went 3.0 innings, allowed seven runs (five earned) on nine hits.

In Pool C on Friday, Williams Baptist tussles with Thomas at 2:30 p.m. CDT. First pitch between Oklahoma City and Webber is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
