Brown Throws Another Perfect Game; SXU Sweeps TIU

By Rob Huizenga, Saint Xavier Sports Information

CHICAGO - Just over a month after throwing a perfect game against Adrian (Mich.) down in Clermont, Fla., senior right-hander Amie Brown did it again recording a perfect game for the Saint Xavier (Ill.) softball team in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity International (Ill.) at SXU Softball Field.  Brown went all five innings in a 10-0 victory against the Trojans in the day's first game, while sophomore righty Megan Nonnemacher gave up just two hits as the Cougars took game two, 10-0, in the nightcap.

It is the first time a SXU pitcher has thrown two perfect games in a single season since 2007 Hall of Famer inductee Stacie Eschmann did it in 2004 against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) and Indiana Tech.

Brown recorded seven strikeouts in the opener to help secure the perfect performance and get the win (8-2).  The Saint Xavier offense gave her plenty of run support with senior catcher Ashley Hunter leading the way going 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.  The Cougars only needed five hits to rack up their 10 runs thanks to nine walks issued by TIU.

Freshman centerfielder Shannon Lauret was also solid at the plate for SXU going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.  The Cougars got a run in the first inning before exploding for six runs in the bottom of the second.  Three more runs in the bottom of the fourth set the stage for ending things early due to the 10-run deficit.

Nonnemacher was nearly just as effective on the mound in the late game going all five frames and allowing just two hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts for the shutout.  She improves to 11-4 this season with the victory.  Sophomore first baseman Ariel Hinton was 1-for-1 with a double and three RBI, while junior shortstop Ashley Sullivan and freshman designated hitter Alexandra Bahner each went 1-for-2 with two RBI.  The Cougars scored all 10 of their runs over the first three innings, including seven runs in the second.

Saint Xavier (21-8 overall/6-2 CCAC) heads to Elgin, Ill., on Thursday, for a conference doubleheader against Judson (Ill.).  The first game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
