Players of the Week ? No. 3
By Jake Knabel, NAIA Communications & Sports Information Intern

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jennifer Ringle of Lee (Tenn.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Softball Player of the Week and Nickayla Skinner of College of Idaho has been named the NAIA National Softball Pitcher of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Ringle and Skinner were chosen based on their performances from March 19 – 25 out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 24 conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Ringle, a Rio Vista, Calif., native, hit a blistering .733 (11-for-15) in leading the Lady Flames to four victories on the week. Her biggest performance came in a 19-5 non-conference rout of Point (Ga.) on March 21 when she went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, a double, six RBIs and three runs scored. She followed that up with a 2-for-3 effort that included another home run and two runs in Lee’s 8-0 shutout of Point in the second game of the doubleheader. She recorded her second four-hit game of the week on March 24 in a 13-5 blowout over conference foe Brewton-Parker (Ga.).

The 5-foot-2 junior infielder finished the week with two home runs, 10 RBIs and nine runs. Ringle ranks sixth nationally in triples (5), 10th in hits (47) and 24th in runs scored (31).

Skinner, a native of Mountain Home, Idaho, continued her dominant work in the circle for the Lady Yotes. She began her week by tossing a seven-inning, 12-strikeout, two-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over Concordia (Ore.) on March 23. She then fired another shutout two days later against Eastern Oregon as she allowed just one hit while again striking out a dozen batters. The 5-foot-7 sophomore workhorse also notched a five-inning, two-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Northwest Christian (Ore.) on March 24, which ended up being the second of three shutouts in as many days.

For the week, Skinner went 3-1 with a save in 25 innings of work. She struck out 37 hitters and allowed only nine hits and seven walks. She ranks second in the NAIA in saves (5), fourth in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (3.62), fifth in opponent batting average (.119), sixth in strikeouts (122), seventh in ERA (0.72) and 13th in wins (11). In her last 39.2 innings pitched, Skinner has surrendered just one run.
