Frazier Sets Career NAIA Home Runs Record

Frazier Sets Career NAIA Home Runs Record

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 3, 2012) -Lubbock Christian's (Texas) Kim Frazier went 5-for-5 in a doubleheader sweep over No.25 Oklahoma Christian University with four home runs and she put herself into the NAIA record books, as her first home run was her 59th career home run to set an NAIA record for career home runs.  Her home run binge helped No.7 Lubbock Christian University claim an 11-3 victory and a 6-5 win over Oklahoma Christian University to extend their NAIA record home win streak to 53 games.

Frazier had originally owned the record for a brief moment last season, but Katie Boocher of Bethel (Ind.) hit five home runs during the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament to regain the original mark Frazier had set.  They both had 58 career home runs at the close of last season, but Boocher was a senior and had her career come to an end.

Frazier now holds the NAIA single season record for home runs (35 in 2010) and the career record, as her four home runs during the Lady Chaps doubleheader has her with 62 in her career.  She also set an LCU single-game record in the second game becoming the first Lady Chaps member to hit three home runs in a game.   She is the second player in the NAIA to record the home run hat trick in a game this season joining Kristen Kirchner of Central Baptist (Ark.).

The record-breaking home run for Frazier came in the third inning of the opening game and it tied the game at 3-3, as it answered a home run hit by Davee Croy of OC in the top half of the inning. LCU broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning with seven runs off six hits with OC unable to record one out.

The game ended with the run rule executed in the inning with a bases-loaded walk-off triple by Brittany Kent.  LCU out-hit OC 16-4 in the game.  Kent went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples, tying a program single-game record for triples.  Frazier went 2-for-2 with a double and home run, and Sarah Mendez helped out her own cause in the circle by going 3-for-3 at the plate.  She had nine strikeouts in five innings for the complete game win, improving her record to 5-0.

Frazier went 3-for-3 in the second game with a home run hit in each of the at-bats. Fortunately for OC, all three home runs were solo shots, but they each played a vital part of the game.  Her first home run provided LCU a 2-1 lead before it sparked another run across for a 3-1 LCU lead.  OC scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning and Frazier answered in the bottom of the inning with a home run to give the Lady Chaps a 4-3 advantage.

Andrea Argee homered in the bottom of the fifth inning and Frazier followed to give LCU back-to-back home runs and a 6-4 lead.  The home run by Frazier proved to be the difference in the 6-5 win.  She was intentionally walked in the sixth inning.  Amanda Longorio received the win (5-0) in the circle for LCU, with Mendez sealing the win with the save.  Mendez did not allow a hit in two innings of relief and struck out four batters.  Kayla Jennings went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in for OC in the loss.

The wins give LCU a 13-0 record on the season and they are 4-0 in conference play.  OC went to 10-3 overall and 3-3 in the SAC.  LCU has an eight-day layoff until they return to action Mar.11 in Tucson Ariz. for the Invitational Games.
